Collegeville, PA – It has been 14 long years since AstroTurf® was first installed at Eleanor Frost Snell Alumnae Field for the Ursinus Field Hockey program. A lot of great hockey has been played on that pitch over the years and much history has been made including a DIII National Championship in 2006. Now, a new chapter begins with the installation of a new, premium AstroTurf® field.
The Bears will be installing “The Original” AstroTurf carpet for Field Hockey exclusive fields. This is the system used by most elite programs and is known as the most durable and uniform system available. The knitted nylon field is exceptional for wet play and offers a consistent and predictable playing surface.
The system will be installed over a 35 mm E-Layer® that was installed by Nagle Athletic surfaces. The E-Layer® is a paved-in-place monolithic pad that has excellent shock absorbency and is totally solid underfoot. Nagle is a premier installer having achieved a reputation for providing unparalleled quality, outstanding service and exceptional value to their customers.

The success of the Ursinus Field Hockey program is undeniable. They have won 12 conference championships, reached 7 NCAA Final Fours and one national championship. Ursinus College and the game of Field Hockey are so intertwined that even the United States Field Hockey Hall of Fame was located there. The Hall of Fame honors the achievements of athletes and coaches of USA Field Hockey teams and was established at the college in the late 1980s.

The last time an AstroTurf® field was installed at Ursinus, the Bears were in the middle of a streak that saw them earn twelve conference championships in thirteen years. Let’s hope that history repeats itself.
