Marshall Chooses AstroTurf Again

Huntington, WV – Marshall University just hit a grand slam with AstroTurf®. Dot Hicks Field was recently resurfaced with brand new artificial sports turf from AstroTurf. The home of the Thundering Herd softball team became the fourth major athletic venue on campus to feature synthetic turf from the industry pioneers.

The old artificial grass outfield at Dot Hicks was removed in July and replaced with a technologically advanced turf field from AstroTurf in August, in plenty of time for the fall exhibition schedule. AstroTurf’s line of products for baseball and softball are the result of decades of research, development, and fine-tuning. These synthetic turf systems are engineered to replicate the look, feel, and performance of their natural surface counterparts on the diamond. In addition to the outfield, AstroTurf fitted the warning track and batting cages at Dot Hicks with new artificial turf.

“We have looked to AstroTurf in the past to meet our synthetic turf needs and they have come through again and again,” said Marshall Athletic Director Mike Hamrick. “Dot Hicks Field looked great during the recent exhibition season for softball, and we anticipate many more great seasons to come with our new AstroTurf field.”

Dot Hicks Field joins Joan C. Edwards Stadium, Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Complex, and the Cline Athletic Complex among the major sports structures at Marshall surfaced with an AstroTurf field. There is now not a single intercollegiate athletic venue with artificial turf on campus that does not feature AstroTurf.

The Thundering Herd won a school-record 42 games, cracked the Top 25, and received a berth in the NCAA Tournament during longtime skipper Shonda Stanton’s last season at the helm in 2017. First-year head coach Jen Steele looks to start a new era of success as she leads the Herd onto the new and improved Dot Hicks Field this coming spring.
